The idea
Casa Verde is not an institution, but an idea – an individual offer of companionship and care for people of all ages during the final stage of their life and beyond. Care is oriented as closely as possible to the guest's needs.
Casa Verde is the idea of creating a place that feels like home. It is the idea of making a "death at home" possible, the way many people wish for. To me, "dying as if at home" also means that no further treatments are wanted, and that the focus lies on the natural process of dying. For me, that means offering the guest comfort care, so that they feel as much at ease as possible and everything is in keeping with their own wishes. A place where, perhaps, last wishes can still be fulfilled.
Offering
The offering is individual and flexible and can be adapted to your own needs and wishes. Here is an overview of what is possible.
Nursing care
Care and support tailored to you, provided by qualified, German- and Italian-speaking staff.
Medical care
Collaboration with local doctors or your personal physician, as well as with other disciplines such as physiotherapy.
Housing
Together we find the right housing option for you. You are welcome to bring your own furniture and furnishings – alternatively, we will provide them for you.
Food
Meals can be freshly prepared with local ingredients according to your wishes.
Activities
Outings and activities of all kinds are, on request, undertaken together or organised for you.
Support for relatives
Relatives are welcome around the clock, are looked after, and can accompany you to the extent you wish.
Pets
Your animal companions are welcome too. If you are no longer able to care for them yourself, we can help.
Urn
Urns made of clay or wood can be designed and crafted on request, or you can make your own.
After death
Arrangement of sea burials or organisation of repatriation of the body/ashes, in cooperation with funeral service providers.
About me
After 18 years of experience in care at various institutions and departments across Switzerland, I have now become self-employed as a registered nurse in Italy. My favourite work in care is end-of-life companionship – being there until the last breath.
In 2008 I obtained my diploma as a registered nurse. Six years later I completed my postgraduate qualification as a specialist in intensive care. In between and afterwards, I went on several longer journeys, until in 2021 I finally found my new home among olive trees, the sea and mountains.
Location and getting there
Isca sullo Ionio lies in Italy, in the region of Calabria, on the Ionian Sea, right at the southern tip of the boot. The village is split into two parts: a historic part in the hills with a view over the Gulf of Squillace, and a part directly on the sea. Like Rome, Isca can be reached in many ways.
Car
From Switzerland, the drive leads via the motorway through Italy to Calabria (about 14–16 hours).
Plane
The nearest airport is Lamezia Terme (SUF), about 60 minutes by car. From there you continue by rental car or public transport to Isca sullo Ionio. On request, I can also arrange a personal transfer or accompany the entire journey.
Train
Lamezia Terme Centrale station is well connected to Milan by train. From there you can continue by train, bus or rental car. On request, I can also arrange a personal transfer.
